Major Changes

Personal Blog No Comments

Well since my last post - things have changed considerably!

While visiting Blackpool for my birthday in June, with my friend Wayne, we found a place to move to.

So on 8th July, I left Keighley and returned once again to Blackpool. This time however I had my mate Wayne along with me, mainly because he wanted to get away from Keighley, but also to help pay the rent, as houses in Blackpool don’t come cheap.

I’ve managed to pick up a few bits of work since being here, but not as much as I would like.

Things were simply ‘ticking over’ until almost 5 weeks ago - then I met Ben.

Now I’m not as young as I used to be, but for some reason Ben and me hit it off almost straight away even though he is considerably younger than me. We will have been together 5 weeks this coming Wednesday (5th Nov) - which is also Ben’s birthday!

Things haven’t gone this well for me for a long time, so I’m enjoying it while I can.

I’m still working at Zebras Night Club in Colne every Friday and Saturday, - so things never change!

That’s about it for now - hopefully I’ll be updating more regularly now.

Be Safe!

June Update

Personal Blog No Comments

You know that life has a funny habit of doing things you least expect.

Just when you think your life is going down the toilet - something really good happens!

Since my last post I have been getting really down and insular. I was not really leaving the house except for work and shopping.

But then - out of the blue I made some new friends, got more work locally, and started to actually have some money in my pocket.

I have bought some new clothes and cleared out a load of old stuff from my wardrobe. Also I’ve been on a bit of a mad out with the old in with the new through-out the rest of my house.

In other news, with the upsurge in work and feeling better about life - I am seriously reconsidering a move back to Blackpool. But this time with one of my new friends. As my gran has got no worse over the last 12 months, I don’t think I need to be so close anymore. I can’t still visit on a weekly basis and she does get plenty of visitors. Plus I am only a phone call away.

I’ve just spent Friday, Sunday and Monday in Blackpool - and it made me realise how much I missed it. I am returning for my birthday on 23-25th June not only for a night out, but to look for a new house to rent.

All in all life is on an upward trend at the moment - so I’m gonna enjoy it while I can….

Until next time

February Update

Personal Blog No Comments

Not much happening really - seems to be a quiet time of year.

Deano - my lodger has now moved in with his girlfriend in Skipton, my gran has left the nursing home ‘Peel Gardens’ and is now at my uncle’s new house in Barnoldswick.

She is not coping with the new conditions very well and is finding it very difficult to adapt. I just hope she will soon get over this initial transition period and settle into being at home.

I have re-vamped my personal website and added some downloads for messenger and mobile phone logos. I’ll be adding some sound clips soon as well.

You can visit my personal site HERE

Pepsi my dog is fine as ever - still as fluffly and playful as she has ever been.

I am still DJing at Zebras night club in Colne every Friday and Saturday night from 12 midnight til 4am. I am also still hosting Karaoke at The Union Cross Hotel in Halifax every Sunday from 8pm till 1am.

That’s about it for this month …

Christmas 2007

Personal Blog No Comments

Well another year is over….

Christmas was a busy time for me this year, with plenty of DJ and Karaoke work, plus for the first time ever I have a real Family Christmas - it only took 38 years!

A friend of mine bought into a pub in Halifax and I did Disco and Karaoke for him over Christmas. I also had my regular weekly spots at Zebras Night Club. Although Zebras was not open Christmas Eve or New Years Eve, so for the first time in years I was actually out on the beer Christmas Eve with a new DJ friend of mine called Deano from Keighley.

Since that night Deano and I have grow a very close friendship and he has now moved into the spare room in my house. We have a lot in common and have been helping each other with karaoke and disco tracks. I even joined him for a  New Years Eve booking in Skipton - it was a good job I did in the end as he blew his music hard drive and I had to rush home for my laptop to make sure the night kept going.

We went to Strata (night club in Skipton) after the gig finished. First time I’ve been there since it was renamed from After Dark.

I spent Christmas Day at my mum’s with my step-dad Alan and Aunty Angela. Great meal, my dog Pepsi came along too and even had her very own Christmas dinner!

Dean and I are looking at going into business together in 2008 - check back for details coming soon…

That’s about all for now….

Autumn Leaves….

Personal Blog No Comments

Well it’s definately autumn, the front yard of my house is full of leaves, the wipers on my car have to be cleared off everytime I use it. The nights are ‘drawing in’ (what does that mean?) it’s getting darker earlier and soon the clocks will be going back….. Before you know it Christmas will be upon us!

There are already the tell-tale signs appearing around the major stores, but not as many toys as usual after the problem with lead in the paint on toys produced in China…

Apparently 80% of the worlds toys are made in China - I never knew that till today! I knew Sky News was good for something other than helping me sleep!

Things have been quiet on the mail front as the postal strike took it’s toll on businesses and private homes alike. I must admit it has been nice to get a rest from all the junk mail I seem to receive at this house - only the odd one is actually addressed to me, so who ever was here before seems to have attracted it and I’ve been left with their legacy of junk mail.

That’s about all for now - I will be producing a new episode of The Kris Stevens Show soon for YouTube, so watch out for a link in a future blog….

Peace Out! - (dunno what that means either!)

Blackpool Update

Personal Blog No Comments

Well, all I can say is that I have just about recovered from my recent visit to Blackpool.

What a great night - it was good to see so many familiar faces, and one or two that I’ve not seen for a very long time. It was a shame it was the last few days of Bar B, I have some fond memories of the place, and some not so fond ones as well…

It was the first proper night out I’ve had since April and I was extremely drunk by the end of it. I started the night visiting a few of my old haunts, and, as planned, I ended up at Bar B about 11pm.

There was a great atmosphere in the venue, and I had an excellent night chatting to friends I’ve not seen since I left Blackpool. After Bar B (about 4am) I was invited to a hotel that servers well into the morning… where again I met people I’ve not seen for ages. I don’t really remember much after getting to the hotel, just that the vodka got the better of me at one point and had to make a quick dash to the loo. But considering the vast quantities I had consumed I can’t say it was suprising.

I returned home on Friday afternoon, after collecting my dog Pepsi from her ‘guest house’ (with my former neighbour in Blackpool). We got back about 1:30pm and after our ‘walkies’, I sat on the sofa and promptly fell asleep until about 8pm.

I then had to get ready for work, DJing in Colne at Zebras at 11pm. Then the nightmare began - I was suffering from the effects of the copious amounts of vodka, and I just about survived the night, and was so glad to see my bed at 3:30am - But I have to say it was definately worth it - I needed a good night out to unwind.

Now back to the daily grind of website building and updates….

I have to transfer all my information from a loaned PC and re-install it clean so it can go back home to Blackpool, with Daz at Apple Magic, a company I have worked with for many years now. Daz loaned me the pc to operate as a server for our websites that we co-build. But as you may have read in one of my earlier posts, I have a new server now on a Kubuntu system, which doesn’t need such a powerful system to run. Also Daz’s circumstances have changed and he could do with the system back.

That’s all for now….. until next time …. Don’t have nightmares ……

Blackpool!! End of an era..

Personal Blog No Comments

Well after almost 6 months away, I am making a return visit to Blackpool today. The main reason for my going is to see Bar B (where I used to work) one last time in it’s current incarnation, it’s then end of an era! I have many fond memories of Bar B, as it was one of the first places I went when I started visiting Blackpool 6 years ago. The club is soon to become FG2, the after-show bar for the ever popular Funny Girls Show Bar.

It’s gonna be nice to see some of my friends again and spend some time in Blackpool, It’s a shame that British seaside towns are not as popular as they once were, as I have always loved Blackpool. After all I did live there for 2 years!

I may consider returning there soon as well if things go well with my gran. There is talk of taking her out of the nursing home and having her at my Uncle’s new house in Barnoldswick. I am sure that a home atmosphere will be a better environment for her than being in the nursing home.

That’s all for today I must go and get ready for my trip…..

Ubuntu Linux

Personal Blog No Comments

Well.. what a revelation! - I have always shied away from using any Linux operating systems cos they seemed too complicated. But then I discovered a thing called Ubuntu (www.ubuntu.com).

It is a system that has made Linux much more user friendly, with various versions depending on your requirements. I went for Kubuntu (mainly cos it is similar enough to windows to help with the transition), but there are a few versions - namely Ubuntu, Ubuntu Server, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, and Edubuntu. Check out the website for more details.

Anyway - I have been running my websites on a Windows XP system for some time, but I was tired of the constant problems, such as automatic updates rebooting my system and shutting down the server, firewall issues, virus scan issues etc etc … I did find a simple to install server for windows I must admit - WAMP Server (www.wampserver.com). This did make operating my own server much easier, But! it was windows that was letting it down.

About a week ago I was told to check out Puppy Linux,(www.puppylinux.org) which I did and was fairly impressed, but it was while checking this out I came across Ubuntu! I have now got a fully working web server, ftp server, mail server, and operating system. All installed and configured within a week! All open source as well so I did it all for nothing. Unlike with expensive windows software(unless you want to run the risk of being caught using illegal copies.)

I have to admit, at first it was a bit confusing getting used to the way Linux based systems work, but once you have learned a few simple commands, it gets easier. Plus the great thing about Ubuntu is that it has a great piece of software built in called Adept Manager that will download and install packages for you from a huge library of files - ALL FREE.

So if you are tired of paying through the nose for windows products and upgrades, I recommend you give Ubuntu a try. Or even Puppy Linux - this amazing program is so small it can run from a CD using only your computers RAM. Both softwares are free, so what have you got to lose?

It’s high time more people realised that there is more than one alternative available to Microsoft and most of them are free.

I just want to add that this site and my other 2 sites (Kris Stevens Personal and Kris Stevens Media) are all hosted on my new Kubuntu system’s server.

Tornados!!!

Personal Blog No Comments

Well it’s all kicking off today! We got tornados ripping off roofs in South & Central England! This global warming thing is really making itself felt now. It was bad enough with the flooding in Kent and Yorkshire not so long ago, now we have tornados. How much distruction is it going to take until people start to sit up and take notice?

The world is on it’s backside and people unaffected by it are going on with their lives not caring what is happening to the planet. It really annoys me!

This is how the Sky News website is reporting the story in Hampshire…

In scenes more reminiscent of the Hollywood movie Twister, three ponies were reportedly lifted into the air as a tornado struck a quiet English village.
The twister in Boarhunt, Hampshire, caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to the area.
It flattened sheds and greenhouses, uprooted trees, knocked over horseboxes, brought down power lines and ripped the roof off a mobile home.
